    Emily Tanner,

    Certified ISR Instructor

    emily.tanner@infantswim.com

    972-515-0386

Registration: New AND returning student registrations are done online. Once you have checked that you agree with this contract I will provide the online URL to register with ISR. Sometimes there are certain health issues or related health histories that may require additional review by the Registration Evaluation Team (RET). This is a team of medical professionals that assess each student prior to enrollment into ISR. You will be contacted directly by them via email should they require further information or request release from a doctor or specialist. Once you have completed the registration process, it is your responsibility to provide me with a copy of your child’s registration with RET approval. Signed copies of the registration form, video release, and these guidelines must be presented before the first lesson can begin. If you do not have these, I cannot put your child in the water. They can be provided on the first day of lessons.

Once you have chosen your desired time slot you will have 24 hours to pay the $300 non-refundable tuition deposit. You will also need to register through ISR (via my personal registration link) and pay their registration fee within 24 hours of choosing your slot. The remaining $600 is due the Friday before lessons start. If any of these deadlines are not met, I will take you off the schedule.

Parent Resource Book: Once you have registered through ISR (via my personal URL) Parents of ISR students will receive an email that includes a link to the digital Parent Resource Guide. The book contains everything you need to know about how and what your child will learn. Please take time to read it from front to back. Returning parents, please make sure to review the dietary restrictions and protocols. You are making a significant investment in time, energy, and money – reading and reviewing the Parent Resource Book will help you get the most out of your investment.

Scheduled Lesson Start Date and Time: Lessons are scheduled according to the availability of both the parent and the instructor however, every child brings to lessons his or her own set of experiences, abilities, and even apprehensions. For these reasons, children progress through lessons at different rates. Occasionally a child may require more time than allotted in the instructor’s schedule. It is important that each child completes their lessons and demonstrates proficiency with their aquatic survival skills. This means the next child in their time slot may need to be rescheduled to begin their lessons a week later or at a different time. I understand that this may cause some inconvenience for you if it is your child that must be rescheduled, and I try to minimize these situations. Please understand that your child will also be given that same level of dedication and priority. If this situation occurs, I will contact you as soon as possible and I appreciate your understanding.

LESSON LOCATION: All lessons will be in Oak Leaf TX.

The deposit is non-refundable and can be paid via Venmo or ApplePay. The remainder of the tuition payment is due the Friday before lessons begin. The tuition is not refunded for student absences.

Make-up lessons will be given if I cancel lessons (i.e., weather, instructor illness, etc). Any missed lessons due to weather or instructor conflict will be added at the end of the 6 weeks IF the student needs more time. I will not give makeup lessons for a child’s illness or vacation. If there is an extenuating circumstance, it will be considered on a case-by-case basis. It is your responsibility to be at any weather day or instructor conflict makeups. Makeup lessons must be used when I have given the availability.

As a courtesy, text me as soon as possible to let me know if your child will be missing lessons for the day.

Illness: If your child has a fever over 100.5, is throwing up, has diarrhea, etc, do not bring your child to lessons. In these instances, it is not healthy for your child to swim and will expose other students to illness. He or she should be symptom-free for at least 24 hrs before returning to lessons. If the fever is under 100.5 and is due to teething, please text me before 8 am that day in order to discuss it. I cannot respond once I am in the water for the day. STUDENTS MAY NOT SWIM AFTER VACCINATIONS FOR A MINIMUM OF 12 HOURS WITH NO SIDE EFFECTS.

    Cancellation Due To Weather

Lessons will be canceled if lightning is in the area. Due to the patchy weather conditions we experience during the summer, there may be a downpour in one part of town while it may be beautiful at the pool. Just because it is raining at your home does not mean that it is raining at my home. Light rain is not a cause for cancellation, lightning is! Please do not assume that lessons are either canceled or not canceled – often, lessons may be postponed for only a few minutes. If lessons are canceled, I will message the group chat on GroupMe or leave a message on my voicemail. I will NOT call each parent individually. You are responsible to check my voicemail or the GroupMe chat in the case of inclement weather. Calling hours before your lesson will NOT give you an answer regarding your lesson, as we all know Texas weather – changes rather quickly. If the weather looks or feels questionable please call 972-515-0386 (only call within a half hour or less of your lesson time). If lessons are canceled, the message will state that. I recommend you put my number in your cell phone for this reason. There are also times when I will text if it’s a last-minute cancellation. Please be sure I have the current name and cell number of the person who will be bringing your child to lessons. Please get the GroupMe app and I will send you a link to join when I have you registered.

If lessons are not canceled, and you do not come because you assume lessons are canceled or you do not want to get out in the rain, it will be considered a no-show and a make-up lesson is not warranted.

    INFANT SWIMMING LESSON GUIDELINES

    1. Registration and update forms must be completed and returned prior to the 1st day of lessons. The student must be cleared by the Registration Evaluation Team (RET) prior to lessons beginning.

    2. You may call me, but you will typically get a quicker response via text. For cancellations please text me. 9725150386

    3. Please review the Parent Resource Guide carefully and completely. For new students, you will receive this online from Infant Swimming Resource. I have also attached a link in the first email where you can preview the parent handbook so you know what ISR is and the requirements. This will answer most of your questions and it will educate you about the approach used to teach infant aquatic survival, the best, the safest, and the most thoroughly researched method in the world.

Do not allow your child to eat 1½ hours before their lesson. No milk or dairy products 2 hours before the lesson. Some children will require more time before the lesson. No apple, pineapple, papaya, passion fruit, peach, celery, honey or spinach products (check juice labels, cereal bars, etc. before serving) for the entire duration of lessons. In other words, none of these foods for the entire 4-8 wks of lessons. For more information, check the Parent Resource Book, Chapter 2. THE EATING AND DRINKING RESTRICTIONS ARE OF EXTREME IMPORTANCE, AS SOME CHILDREN WILL VOMIT DURING THE LESSON IF THEY HAVE EATEN OR DRANK TOO RECENTLY. IF A CHILD VOMITS FOOD OR MILK INTO THE POOL, THERE WILL BE A $100 CLEANING FEE. SOMETIMES A CHILD WILL VOMIT LIQUID/WATER – THAT IS OK, BUT THERE SHOULD NOT BE FOOD/MILK COMING UP AS WELL.

BUDS Sheets: All children under 30 mo are required to have a fully completed BUDS sheet. This sheet is used as a tool for the instructor to monitor your child’s bowel, urination, diet, and sleep behavior. It also provides a safety buffer for the lesson and a road map for the instructor to follow. The instructor is required to keep these on file when completed.

IF YOUR CHILD HAS NOT BEEN TOILET TRAINED FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS, Dress him or her in 2 reusable cloth swim diapers. Children must have 2 layers of protection. Huggies Swim Diapers or any type of disposable swim diapers are not acceptable and will not be permitted. Disposable swim diapers DO NOT hold fecal matter. NOTE: the swim diapers must fit snugly around the waist and legs or they are of no use. These can most easily be purchased on the ISR Seal Store (isrsealstore.com) or another website. Children who come for lessons without reusable swim diapers will not be permitted in the pool. There will be a $100 cleaning fee for feces that leaks out of the swim diapers into the pool. This is because I have to shut down the pool for the rest of the day. Please ensure the swim diapers fit snugly around the legs and waist in order to prevent this.

*Please be aware that the outdoor lessons are at a private residence and there will be no bathroom available for use at the pool. Make sure you and your child use the restroom before arriving for lessons.* Please DO NOT allow your child to go to the bathroom in the yard.

You must bring THREE TOWELS to each lesson. One is to be used for the bottom layer as a barrier between the pool deck and your child (for sanitary reasons), one is to be used for absorption, and one is to dry your child.

Due to the amount of energy exerted during your child’s lesson, allow for a nap or quiet time following the lesson for an hour or so. Younger infants enrolled in ISR lessons are more prone to sleep after the lesson.

Consistency is very important in our system. Bringing your child every day will increase the rate of progress and better the retention of learned skills. Please review my missed lessons policy.

If you are late to the lesson, your child will be in for the remainder of the time slot rather than making the next child start late. Consistent tardiness will constitute a lesson time change. If your child has had to miss more than 5 days of lessons, his time slot may be given to another student.

REFRESHER LESSONS: The rapid growth of the infant’s body initiates changes in his center of gravity. Children will need to continue refresher lessons to maintain their skills. Speak to me about refresher lessons for your child after he has completed his initial lesson series. Refreshers are recommended every 6 months for the best retention of skills. Refresher lessons are for those who have completed the Swim Float Swim sequence. Floaters from last season will require another 6 weeks to obtain the SFS skills.

It is the parent’s responsibility to inform the instructor of any injuries, medications, or interactions of medications your child is taking during lessons.

Parental intervention during water playtime usually counteracts appropriate responses being shaped by your instructor. This is usually evident on Mondays following extended time in the pool over the weekend. Children should ideally stay out of the water throughout lessons. Refer to the Parent Resource Guide.

Please keep your child’s fingernails trimmed! I would like to prevent both myself and your child from getting scratched up during lessons. Be aware that if your child scratches himself, this is because you have failed to keep his nails trimmed and I cannot be held responsible.

Sunscreen/Lotions of any kind: A little sunscreen on your child’s face is fine, but please opt for a rash guard and/or a swimsuit with fuller coverage. I have around 30 students in my pool daily. Sunscreen comes off in the water, floats on the surface, and gets in the children’s eyes. Sunscreen and lotions also make students slippery and more difficult to work with. Ten minutes in the sun each time should not give them too much sun exposure.

Keep all other children present at the lesson under your immediate supervision. Siblings are not allowed to swim or be in the water while the sibling is in the lesson. No children are permitted in the hot tub or pool unless upon request of the instructor. This is not only an ISR rule but an insurance issue as well.

Please do not block anyone’s mailbox or driveway when parking. There is parking on the gravel parking lot to the Right (East Side) of my driveway. DO NOT park on the driveway, grass inside of the gate, or in front of the garages. Please be considerate of others when leaving and leave as quickly as possible to allow incoming students to park close by. If there is no parking on the gravel lot inside the gate you can park down Indian Ridge. I DO NOT recommend parking anywhere on E. Highland Rd.

Based on compiled experiences of instructors, it’s unfortunate that I actually have to ask that you DO NOT allow your child to:

Use the bathroom in my yard, not even urinate

    Pick my flowers or plants

Leave trash in my yard or street

Eat anything chocolaty or messy on the seats

    Stand on the chairs outside

Stand or sit on the tabletop

    Pet the goats

NO PEANUT PRODUCTS ARE ALLOWED ON THE PROPERTY

ANY FORMS OF BITING, HITTING, OR INTENTIONAL SPITTING MAY WARRANT BEING REMOVED FROM LESSONS WITHOUT A REFUND.

Please respect the fact that this is my home and I ask you to treat it well. Remember, you are responsible for your child’s behavior and safety when outside the pool.

Videotaping will be allowed only on Fridays and during clothes test days, and only with the instructor’s prior approval. If it’s a Friday and you’d like to videotape your child’s lesson, please first ask permission from the instructor. Your child needs your complete attention during each lesson. Do not post YouTube postings!

Once registration through ISR is complete you will be emailed a copy of your registration form from ISR. Please print two copies, one for yourself and one for me. Please bring a signed copy of your registration form on the first day of lessons, along with any protocols if applicable. I will not be able to teach your child unless I have this registration form, so please remember to bring it.
